iPhone, Emoji, Free!
However, to be able to activate the possibility to enter Emoji, you normally have to set your whole iPhone language to Japanese. Which is quite unsettling if you’re not fluent in Japanese. And I am not fluent in Japanese.
• There are other solutions, involving jailbreaking your iPhone. And I don’t want to jailbreak my iPhone.
• There is a paying application in the iTunes Store. And I don’t have money to waste on such a futile thing.
• And, finally, there is a solution that has none of these drawbacks and I’ll share it with you.
You first need to go to the iTunes Store and download the free Spell Number application for your iPhone.
Then install it in your iPhone and launch it. Once there, enter the following number : 9876543.21 (edit: the code has changed and is now 91929394.59)
Then quit the application and go to the Settings of your iPhone.
Once there, go to General → Keyboard → International Keyboards → Japanese
You will find a new switch called "Emoji", activated by the easter egg you entered earlier in Spell Number.
Check it if you want to enable Emoji keyboard. You can also uncheck it to disable Emoji keyboard later.
The new Emoji keyboard is now activated. You can even remove Spell Number from your iPhone, the function will still be enabled.
From now on, everytime you are in an application allowing you to enter text (Notes, SMS, Mail and so on…), you’ll be able to switch between all your active keyboard(s) (I have French (France) and English (US) on mine) and one more : the Emoji keyboard.
Switching between keyboards is done by clicking on the “Earth” icon in the lower left part, between the “123” and the space keys.
- The “Earth” icon in the lower left corner lets you switch again to your other(s) keyboard(s).
- The “Clock” icon lists your most recent and frequent used Emoji.
- The other icons are sets of themed Emoji. Each one spans on multiple pages you can scroll horizontally.
- The ⌫ icon is the normal “erase to the left” key.

Depuis sa sortie japonaise, l’iPhone peut gérer les Emoji. Tous les téléphones peuvent afficher les Emoji. Mais ils ne peuvent pas être affichés sur un Mac ou un pécébeurk pour le moment.
Cependant, pour pouvoir activer la possibilité d’entrer des Emoji, il faut normalement passer tout l’iPhone en langue japonaise. Ce qui peut être très perturbant si l’on ne pratique pas le japonais couramment. Et je ne parle pas japonais couramment.
• Il y a d’autres solutions, qui impliquent le jailbreak de votre iPhone. Et je ne veux pas « jailbreaker » mon iPhone.
• Il existe une solution payante dans l’iTunes Store. Et je n’ai pas d’argent à gaspiller dans une chose aussi futile.
• Et, enfin, il existe une solution qui n’a aucun de ces inconvénients et que je vais partager avec vous.
Allez d’abord sur l’iTunes Store et téléchargez l’application iPhone gratuite Spell Number.
Puis installez-la sur votre iPhone et lancez-la. Une fois là, entrez le nombre suivant : 9876543.21 (edit : le code a changé et est maintenant 91929394.59)
Puis quittez l’application et allez dans les Réglages de votre iPhone.
Une fois là, allez dans Général → Clavier → Claviers internationaux → Japonais
Vous trouverez un nouveau switch appelé "Emoji", activé par l’easter egg entré plus tôt dans Spell Number.
Activez-le pour pour activer le clavier Emoji. Vous pouvez aussi le désactiver pour désactiver le clavier Emoji.
Le nouveau clavier Emoji est maintenant actif. Vous pouvez même effacer Spell Number de votre iPhone, la fonction restera active.
Dorénavant, dans chaque application permettant d’entrer du texte (Notes, SMS, Mail etc…), vous pourrez passer d’un clavier à l’autre (j’ai le Français (France) et Anglais (US) sur le mien) et un nouveau : le clavier Emoji.
Passer d’un clavier à l’autre se fait en cliquant sur l’icône « planète Terre » en bas à gauche, entre la touche « 123 » et la barre d’espace.
- L’icône « planète Terre » en bas à gauche vous laisse revenir à votre (vos) autre(s) clavier(s).
- L’icône « Horloge » affiche la liste des Emoji utilisés récemment et fréquemment.
- Les autres icônes correspondent aux Emoji, classés par catégories. Chacune occupe plusieurs écrans entre lesquels vous pouvez naviguer en faisant défiler horizontalement.
- L’icône ⌫ est la touche « effacement à gauche » normale.
